Where are you?

We're at the Poplar Nurseries site in Marks Tey, as shown on this map. Sat Nav users can use CO6 1HR.

Poplar Nurseries

What is your relationship with Poplar Nurseries?

We operate in close co-operation with our friends at Poplar Nurseries, but we are a separate company operating at their site under a lease arrangement.

Steam Train

Are all train steam hauled?

Most trains are but on quieter days we may use our large diesel outline electrically powered loco to haul trains.

Do trains run every day?

No. See here for details of opening times and dates.

Train Ticket

Do we need to pre-book tickets?

No all tickets are sold at the railway, either on the day or in a prepaid ticket cards that can be used at any time.

Do you take credit cards?

We only take cash on the railway but you can buy our £10 or £18 multi ride tickets using a Credit or Debit Card at the Chappel Chocolate House, which is situated in the large rear car park at Poplar Nurseries. They also sell great hand made chocolates!

Can we bring our dog?

No, sadly dogs are not allowed on the Poplar Nurseries site, guide dogs excepted.

Stop Watch

How long does the ride last?

You should allow about 5 minutes for boarding the train, the journey and disembarking afterwards.

Storm Clouds

Do you operate in bad weather?

Nobody wants to sit on a train on a cold and wet day so we do reserve the right not to operate in bad weather. Please check our Facebook page for details of service cancellations.

Party Food

Can we hire the railway for our child's birthday party?

Yes, but subject to our busy operating calendar. We would not want to shut the railway to passengers on a busy bank holiday, but may well be happy to open the line exclusively for a birthday on quieter days. Please contact us for further details.

Can I buy a season ticket or visitors pass?

Yes. We sell cards for either 10 or 20 rides at £10 and £18 respectively. These can be used at any time and by anybody and have no expiry date. They also make great presents for the train mad youngster in your family.
